Michel: Whenever We Are Close to Our Best Level, We will Be Competitive

Rayo Vallecano head coach Michel has ensured that his side will be competitive in their visit to face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday evening.
Los Blancos lost 3-0 at home to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League on Wednesday evening, but the 43-year-old recognises the talent in their ranks.
“Real Madrid have had good and not-so-good moments, but with the level of their squad they can score a goal from nowhere,” said Michel.
“We hope to play a good game, to enjoy it and take something away from the Bernabeu.
“Whenever we are close to our best level, we will be competitive.”
The Rayo coach also confirmed that striker Raul de Tomas, on loan from Madrid, will be unable to play due to the ‘fear clause’, while Oscar Trejo will miss out after picking up a knock.
“We have tried to find their weak points,” Michel said with regard to the gameplan of Rayo.
“It’s a very difficult match and we have to be prepared to suffer without the ball, and to have our moments when do have it.”
Rayo are currently 19th in the LaLiga Santander table with 10 points from 15 games, but Michel is not worrying just yet.
“Every match for us is an opportunity to add [points] and to get out of there [the relegation zone],” he added.
“We’re not doing the maths and we do not write off any match.
“We have to be convinced that we are going to win and that it will be the starting point for our escape.”
