Parliament Denies Sale of Southern Port to Foreign Company

Khartoum – Chairman of Roads and Bridges Committee at the Parliament , Mohamed Ahmed Alshayeb has denied as untrue the circulated news reports that the government sold the southern containers port in Port-Sudan saying that it doesn’t have the right of sale of public properties and that negotiation is ongoing with the company for recruiting a number of employees at the port.
Alshayeb said according to Sudan News Agency (SUNA) on Tuesday that that the agreement which was signed with the Philippine company (ICTSI) for managing the southern port of containers in Port-Sudan is only a lease contact and the government is a partner in managing and operating containers port.
The statements by the chair of the parliamentarian committee in the aftermath of the strike launched by a number of workers of loading and unloading in protest of the takeover of the Philippine takeover of its tasks of managing parts of the port stressing the parliament’s keenness on maintaining the rights of the employees
