Khartoum- The Dams Implementation Unit (DIU) has announced sending a number of equipment to contribute to construction of nine dams in North Darfur state, including rehabilitation of Abu-Jadad Dam and establishment of Ed Al Khair and Rahad Oum-Jadid dams.
The move aims at storage of 20 million cubic meters of water as part of the plan of Zero Thirsty program for this year.
Director of Surface Water Department at DIU Engineer Ali Garal-Nabi Al Faki said the new dams in North Darfur State are due to contribute to stability of refugees who return voluntarily from Chad to Greater Al Malha Locality (Al Tinah – Karnowi- Oum Baru).
He explained that water harvesting has contributed markedly to stability of the citizens besides lessening competition over water resources, indicating that the water harvesting program covers all states of the country targeting zero-thirsty by the end of year 2020.
