Kassala with its towering hills and mighty river received the president of Sudan. It echoed the plaudit: Beja hadid or Beja is steel .The town is adorned with the shrine of Sayyid Al-Mirgahni revered by majority of residents. It seems that Hatim Alsir from the Unionist party loves the virtuous characters. Speaking from the Olympic stadium, he recalled how that saint disseminated peace, unity and love. Mr. Hatim commended the president peace initiative in South Sudan, the horn of Africa and his declaration of cease fire from Kadugli describing as positive steps. Another key note speaker was Musa Muhammad Ahmed, the head of Beja congress. He expressed his trust in the veteran chief and how his announcement of comprehensive cease fire would promote peace in Sudan. He urged the mob and statesmen to keep patience and seek wisdom and prudence in order to attain convergence points to realize a decent living. The governor of Kassala Adam Jamah gratefully welcomed the president in various dialects of Kassala and disclosed how the town celebrated the president wedding. Women dyed their hands with henna writing “You just stay” an inscription of pro-president chant in every rally. President of republic after a brief spontaneous dance waving amicably his baton to the congregation in the hot radiant sun, smiled expressing his relief and happiness with the blast of enthusiasm, warmth of welcome and reunion. Kassala is a place better described by the words of poet Thomas Moore:” breathed the good and brave” Thus, it propelled president to remark:” Kassala is history… Osman Digana… Siddi Al-Hassan and Ali Baitie. He went on to portray how the citizens there met and mingled in one crucible and melting pot of tribes and traditions. ” Kassla broke the thorn of mutiny and foiled conspiracies’; he said. It was clear that he was remembering the rebel incursion into Kassala at the beginning of his reign. He repeated what he said, not once but several times that the rule in Sudan can be accessed through the ballot boxes rather than facebook and WhatsApp hinting at attempts of coup via the social media. In his address, he promised to satisfy the aspirations of masses stressing that gratifying their ambitions is one of his major concerns.
He also promised to make the voice of youth audible, securing future through their participation and concluded that fostering and protecting them as an obligation of every official in community or government. The position of Kassala as a frontier town prompted the president to salute Eretria: people and government and announce the opening of borders between the two countries. Politics divides us. But what unifies us: history, Geography and an affinity of blood. The president ended his speech. Since the journey was short, the president concluded with the hope of re-visiting kassala in a better situation.
