H.E Ambassador Shiferaw Jarsos: that such erroneous news reports are unworthy of being given any attention

H.E Ambassador Shiferaw Jarso, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of the Sudan expressed his dismay at the erroneous report published by the Ethiopian weekly English newspaper-The Reporter on February 02, 2019, regarding its coverage of the news about H.E. Dr. WorknehGebeyehu’s presentation of the six month performance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the House of People’s Representatives.
The erroneous coverage which stated Ethiopia might cut off diplomatic ties with Sudan in relation to arms smuggling is regrettably taken out of context by the Reporter and did not take into account the facts on the ground as well as the existing excellent bilateral relations between the Ethiopia and Sudan. It is also regrettable that such erroneous news that does not reflect the spirit and nuance of the Minister’s report to the Parliament went viral on some Sudanese social media outlets.
Consequently, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has officially requested the Reporter to retract the story and apologize for the mistake made and the Reporter has already followed suit by correcting the mistake on the said report.
H.E Ambassador Shiferaw Jarsostatedthat such erroneous news reports are unworthy of being given any attention by the public and further noted Ethiopia and Sudan are eternally bound together bythe Nile and that the deep-rooted familial relationthat exists between the government and peoples of the two countriesis stronger than ever. Moreover,Ambassador Shiferaw also stated that the government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia is committed towards further strengthening bilateral relations of the two countries and reiterated both Ethiopia and Sudan are working hand in hand in combating illicit arms smuggling and cooperate on various sectors whichlead towards economic integrationof the region including equitable utilization of the Nile.
