Ambassador of Ethiopia Held Fruitful Discussion with Governor of Gezira State

Khartoum – On the closing day of his visit to various states in Sudan, H.E. Ambassador Shiferaw Jarso paid a visit to H.E Dr. Mohamed Tahir Alia, Governor of Gezira State and held productive talks regarding issues of mutual concern.
On the discussions, Ambassador Shiferaw Jarso highlighted the longstanding and historical relations between Ethiopia and Sudan and underscored that Ethiopia and Sudan share not only the Nile waters but also the same people.
He further stressed the need for economic integration and explained that it is with this view in mind that this visit to the three states was conducted. In this regard, he mentioned the south western area of Ethiopia could benefit a lot from this corridor to use port of Sudan as an alternative trade route. Moreover, Ambassador raised about the upcoming high level ministerial committee and border development commission meetings and emphasized the importance of Gazira state in nile issues and raised the cooperation between the Ethiopian Embassy and Hydraulics Research Centre found in Wad Madani.
Regarding Diaspora issues, Ambassador raised that many Ethiopians live and work in Wad Madani and that Sudan is like their own home and requested to work closely with the authorities in Madani to further strengthen the people to people relations and facilitate better working conditions.
He further stressed that there exists an opportunity to cooperate more in exchanging experience in agriculture and irrigation and twinning between cities and universities.
Dr. Mohamed Tahir Alia, Governor of Gezira State, on his part discussed that Gezira state is the second after Khartoum and that agriculture is the main economic activity in the state and it is second in manufacturing sector. He further stressed that there is a lot to benefit from the relation between the two countries and raised the importance of cooperating in banking and trade sectors.
