Sudanese –Russian relations have witnessed a great development in political and economic domains, relations between Khartoum and Moscow began since 1990s, according to the foreign policy of Khartoum which has concerned and keens to promote communication with international community in accordance of the specific interests, and we find that the first step that Khartoum made towards this an important matter it decided that to extend its communication with others through diplomatic which considered an active means in developing and promoting relationship among nations all over the world and also the diplomatic process was reactivating the role of cooperation and integration among the world’s states. In this period Sudan had witnessed a huge complicated challenges, and continuing savaged war between North and South, that civil war had been escalated and moved by specific circles have hidden agenda aim to weak Sudan’s government and isolate it from its regional and international arena, but Khartoum had adopted strong political stances through which announcing its rejection a new imperialism hegemony aim to utilize the resources of the others and endeavor to shaking the world’s states stability and security.
Sudan was one of these, which confronted targeting its sovereignty, and became in complete isolation due to these national stances which refused and still continuing its rejection towards the bare face interference in its domestic affairs, so that the Sudanese government enabled to normalize its bilateral relations with Russia base on exchange respect and mutual interests, the two leaderships o the two countries determined and keened on developing their relations on all fields to achieve the demanded objectives for the people of the two countries.
Russia keens to develop its bilateral ties with Sudan so that it has an embassy in Khartoum and Sudan has an embassy in Moscow. For decades, Russia and Sudan have an international strong honest economic and political a strategic partnership due to their seriousness and willingness to working in one glove to meet their challenges, both countries now are exerting an efforts to strengthen their relationships in all aspects.
The diplomatic cooperation between the two countries was promoted during 1990s and early 2000 when Russian President Vladimir Putin was elected as the President, and then prime Minister of Federal Russia, the first good step he was doing he supported Sudan when Russia opposed the United Nations peace keeping in Darfur region. Russia strongly supports Sudan’s territorial integrity; also, Russia is Sudan’s strongest investment partner and regarded Sudan as an important global ally in the African continent. For decades there have been Sudanese graduation were studying in Russian universities.
Relationship between Sudan and Russia aims to bring substantial economic benefits to both friendly countries as well as possibly set the framework for stranger political ties in the future. However, closer bilateral ties with Moscow including the investment of so many state owned oil companies in Sudan, this will extend the interests of Kremlin in foreign countries all over the world in order to enhance its relationship with Sudan and creates an appropriate atmosphere for developing its cooperation with Russia in all domains in upcoming future.
Bilateral relations between Khartoum and Moscow have witnessed major development; this explains that the Russian government has several development projects in Sudan aim to bolster peace and stability. We find that Russia’s government remains an active participation in the Sudanese issues; it has stood steadfast against any new sanctions on the country.
Sudan accords priority to the development of relation with Federal Russia, considering the status of the latter as a big influential power in international issues, so that Sudanese government wants to establish a strategic partnership with Russia in the field of agriculture, industry, resources and rehabilitation of sea ports in view of the extensive experience that Russia has possessed in those spheres. I hope that Sudanese government to keen and invite Russia to enter in investment and boost their cooperation in Petroleum and gas sectors, because Federal Russia has a unique progress technology in the field of oil production, no doubt this will help Sudan to utilize its Petroleum and gas resources.
Khartoum would open its door for Moscow and provides it an opportunity to focus on discovering oil and gas as well as in the field of agriculture. However, Russia is the best friend country to Sudan because it has a clear honest political and diplomatic stances full-support Khartoum in many international forums, so that the two sides are keen and serious to strengthen their bilateral ties in all domains.
