Gum Arabic to Be Included in ACP-EU Partnership Programs


Khartoum – The Ambassador of the Sudan to Belgium Dr. Matarif Siddiq has said that the embassy has been preparing to take the necessary measures to include the gum arabic sector in partnership programs between the Group of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (ACP) with the European Union.  He announced that during his meeting, Saturday in Brussels, with the Secretary General of the Arab Gum Council and Chairman of the Program and Events Committee at the International Gum Arabic Conference Dr. Abdul-Majid Abdul-Gadir. Sudan’s deputy ambassador to Belgium Osman Hussein said that the request to include the gum arabic sector was similar to other commodity sectors adopted by the European Union within the subsidized partnership products such as sugar, cocoa, cotton and bananas. For his part, Dr. Abdul-Gadir pointed out that the Gum Arabic Council in Sudan would follow up with the staff of the embassy and cooperate with it in all aspects that help to include gum arabic in cooperation sectors with the European Union, especially that Sudan produces 85% of the world production and has the potential to double its production.
