Kassala Celebrates World Drug Day

Khartoum – Under Secretary at the Ministry of Security and Social Development , Asmahan Ahmed AL Basher appreciated the efforts of Kassala State to address communities and families to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society .
The Under Secretary said yesterday during the celebration of the World Drug Day at Kassala State which was participated by the officials and the concern bodies ,said that the day is celebrated annually on 26 June .The theme this year 2019 is “Health for Justice .Justice for Health “.
Sudan is one of the countries is strongly concern in addressing the drugs problems through mobilization and political will and media campaigns, Asmahan said .
It is worth noting that 7 December 1987 ,the General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drugs Abuse and Illicit Trafficicking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drugs abuse .Supported each year by individuals ,communities and various organizations all over the world ,this goal observance aims to raise awareness of the major problem that illicit drugs represent to society .
This year ,s theme highlights that justice and health are two sides of the same coin when it comes to addressing drugs problems .
According to the UNODC effective responses to the world drug problem require inclusive and accountable institutions of criminal jutice ,health and social and social services to work hand in hand to provide integrated solutions , in line with the international drug control conventions ,human rights obligations and Sustainable Development Goals .
UNODC encourages individuals ,non-profit organizations ,the private sector and Member States to get involved in its social media campaign to mark this day and invites them to draw on the resources provided in the social media campaign package.
